Implant Dentures – Indianapolis, IN

Enjoy Your Smile for a Lifetime

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 1 out of 6 (17%) people over the age of 65 in the United States have no remaining natural teeth. While many are turning to traditional dentures to restore the look of a healthier, complete smile, there is another option that promises longer-lasting results and optimal stability. With implant dentures in Indianapolis from Indy Dental Group, patients can expect a permanent solution that not only improves jawbone density and better oral health but also provides a more youthful appearance and greater confidence. To find out if you are eligible for implant dentures, contact us to schedule an appointment.

What Are Implant Dentures?

Instead of settling for traditional dentures that only sit on top of the gums and often require denture adhesive to help hold them in place, implant dentures rely on titanium posts that are surgically placed within the jawbone. This minor surgical procedure creates a firm foundation for the customized restoration that will be secured to the top of the implant posts.

Using between four and six implants, this unique prosthetic is viewed as the gold standard for tooth replacement, offering patients greater benefits and the opportunity to embrace a better quality of life.

Because implant dentures are considered a more invasive procedure, a consultation with our dental team is essential. Your implant dentist in Indianapolis at Indy Dental Group will go over your eligibility as well as the two types of dentures you can choose from:

Fixed/Permanent Implant Dentures

Known as a hybrid prosthetic, a fixed implant denture uses between four and six posts and cannot be removed by anyone other than a licensed implant dentist. Designed to offer greater stability, you do need more jawbone density to ensure secure and successful placement.

Removable Implant Dentures

Referred to as a “Snap-On Denture,” removable dentures make it easy for you to take them out at night and clean them. Only requiring between two and five implant posts, they’re held in place by a bar- or ball-retained device. You can easily take it out and reinsert the prosthetic once you are finished cleaning it.

The Implant Denture Process

Receiving implant dentures is a lengthy process but once you see the results, you’ll understand why it is worth the time and money. While no two cases are the same, the same four steps are required for each individual who chooses these permanent prosthetics to replace their missing teeth.

Once you meet with a member of our team to discuss your eligibility, it will be determined if you require preliminary treatment to address any signs of gum disease, severe tooth decay, or jawbone deterioration. If so, you may be required to undergo periodontal therapy, tooth extraction, or bone grafting.

Once you are cleared for surgery, you can remain in one location because our team provides the placement and restoration in-house. After administering local anesthesia, we will make multiple incisions in your gums before placing each dental implant. We’ll then close the gum tissue and place protective healing caps over the tops of your implants.

During the next 3-6 months, you’ll recover at home until you are fully healed and can receive your customized denture that looks and feels completely natural.
